Some would argue that JOHN WICK superstar Keeanu Reeves is a real-life superhero in his own right, though now it appears as if he could become one on Netflix as well.
Word has recently reached the masses that Reeves is in talks to play a vigilante superhero for PAST MIDNIGHT, a full-length feature written by TJ Fixman (RATCHET & CLANK) with DOPE helmer Rick Famuyiwa occupying the director's chair. Set to be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo of Disney-Marvel fame, no details concerning the plot have been revealed at this time.
It's being reported that Netflix fought hard for the PAST MIDNIGHT script from Fixman, whose credits hail primarily from a video game backround, as he's a long-standing contributor to the Isomniac Games and Sony-published RATCHET & CLANK action-platformer franchise.
According to sources, Fixman and Famuyiwa are looking to present audiences with a very different spin on the vigilante superhero genre, and they're hoping that Reeves will be the man to deliver a unique performance. Meanwhile, Famuyiwa recently signed on to write and direct a feature-length adaptation of Charles Burn's graphic novel BLACK HOLE, which is set in the Pacific Northwest in the 1970s and follows a group of teenagers who contract a mysterious sexually transmitted disease that causes physical mutations.
