Netflix’s The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron reveals new poster

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Netflix has acquired the feature film rights to the action-packed graphic novel series THE OLD GUARD by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, landing Charlize Theron as the main character "Andy",

leader of a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die who have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

Huh, sounds like it could be cool. Sort of an update on the HIGHLANDER mold of badass immortals (this time as a team) kicking ass throughout history, but possibly without the decapitation weakness and more contemporary and resonant adversaries. Theron has also shown that she can be a kick-ass action movie lead, in both ATOMIC BLONDE and FURY ROAD (I'd even add AEON FLUX, as the movie's not great, but that's not at all Theron's fault).

Anyway, Netflix has just released a new poster (which you can see below), and will be releasing an official trailer Thursday, May 21st.

So what do you guys think? Fans of the graphic novel? If so, what do you think of the adaptation? Either way, sound off below!

Meanwhile, you'll be able to stream THE OLD GUARD – directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and also starring Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Harry Melling, Van Veronica Ngo, Matthias Schoenaerts and Chiwetel Ejiofor – July 10th on Netflix.
