Alex Garland spun a tale about the potential follies of artificial intelligence in EX MACHINA, and come next year he’s bringing us another surreal sci-fi story in ANNIHILATION. Starring Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Tuva Novotny and Jessica Lange in what is being called an “environmental thriller” about a group of scientists who head into the mysterious and dangerous “Area X” after a dozen previous expeditions resulted in death for the people who went inside. The new trailer for the movie takes the female team into the hypnotic, unearthly heart of danger, where more evil things than pretty plants and trippy-looking animals await them.
After seeing the first teaser and now this new trailer I can say I'm totally enamored with the visual style of the film and the overall nature of the story itself. I never read the book by Jeff VanderMeer, and I will probably keep it that way until I see the movie. This seems like a film that would be all the more enthralling by going in completely fresh and having no idea what to expect.
ANNIHILATION arrives February 23, 2018.
