Another new pic from Quentin Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, this one showing heroine Shosanna (Mélanie Laurent) and her friend Marcel (Jacky Ido) as they give a Nazi what for. I had my doubts, but maybe – just maybe – Quentin will be able to pull this thing off in time for the Cannes Film Festival in May. I thought it was crazy, but it looks like he’s moving along at a fast clip.
Here’s what the WWII epic is about:
BASTERDS takes place in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…
Although the French may be getting a look at BASTERDS in May, the rest of the world most likely won’t see it until this time next year. I don’t know if it’ll be awards bait or not, but my guess is that it gets a Christmas release.
