Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The video game franchise “Doom” has been offering up bloody, first-person thrills for decades, and in the new trailer for the latest entry – “Doom: Eternal” – the thrills look bloodier and ever before. The trailer was dropped by Bethesda at the E3 conference last night, showing off some wild gunplay that features some huge guns and lots of intricate ways to obliterate enemies that include, but is not limited to, decapitating, impaling, bashing, burning, and vaporizing.

The fifth entry in the main series of games from the demons of Hell taking over Earth, and it's up to the Doom Slayer to fight them back. In the player’s arsenal is a variety of weapons, including the Super Shotgun (fit with a “Meat Hook”), the Heavy Cannon and the “Crucible Blade”, which can be used for more up-close kills. Even with all those guns, if you aren't heavily using the "Meat Hook" you're not playing the game correctly.

The next game in the series after 2016’s fourth outing, “Doom”, will also offer some new multiplayer modes, such as the “Invasion” setting that allows other players to leap into another player’s game as a demon and fight back against them.  All of that content plus the inclusion of that aforementioned “Meat Hook” – which seems worth the price of purchase alone – adds up to what should be a wild new entry in the series for first-person shooter fans who wish to watch every demon around them explode in a hail of gunfire and slashes.

DOOM: ETERNAL is on shelves November 22.
