New clip and featurette for Darren Aronofsky’s Noah shows he’s not alone

A new clip from director Darren Aronofsky's NOAH has surfaced, as well as a new featurette that highlights the reactions and commentary from screenwriter Ari Handel and a handful of religious experts. The clip shows a confrontation between Ray Winstone and Russell Crowe, which certainly build some anxiety. Pretty much anytime a villainous Ray Winstone confronts you there's going to be some uneasiness and that's the case here. The featurette dives into how Handel and Aronofsky approached the interpretation of the Biblical tale along with commentary by religious experts who seemingly champion the adaptation for both its similarities and deviations from the source material.

NOAH has already gleaned $1.4 million at the Mexican box office, which matches the same debut in that market for last year's GRAVITY. In addition, the film has already pulled in $1.1 million from Korea and is on track for a $35 million opening stateside, although Paramount is low-balling their estimate at $27.5 million. Faith-based films are never a sure thing, although some have done exceptionally, such as Mel Gibson's PASSION OF THE CHRIST and C.S. Lewis' CHRONICLES OF NARNIA films. Even the repackaged SON OF GOD did solid business for a faith-based flick that was trimmed out of The Bible mini-series. With a $130 million budget, however, NOAH is in a bigger boat and has a larger storm to weather, pun obviously intended.

NOAH opens this Friday, March 28, 2014.
