MAMA scored big at the box office last week, scaring up a $28.1 million haul that proved horror is far from dead at the box office. One of the creepiest elements of the film was MAMA herself, whose design was created by way of practical effects that were then enhanced by CGI in post, delivering a highly unnerving effect that chilled viewers to the bone.

Today we have a short clip that features Javier Botet’s motion test that illustrates how MAMA came to life. The filmmakers used traditional prosthetic/make-up work with the addition of CGI hair to achieve the look you see in the film. I gotta say, this 53 second clip is the stuff nightmares are made of – almost as scary as the film itself! Check it out below.

MAMA is currently in theaters and stars Jessica Chastain, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Megan Charpentier and Isabelle Nellsse.
