Disney has released a slew of images and clips in preparation for the release of director Andrew Stanton’s JOHN CARTER, which highlight some of the film’s big and small scale moments.  From a canyon escape to the first meeting with Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) to a revelation shared with the Princess of Barsoom (Lynn Collins) and to a playful moment with an alien “dog,” these clips give a better perspective into what to expect from the film.

I’m a champion for JOHN CARTER, simply because I think it looks great as a moviegoer, but I know a lot of people are on the fence and confused about what the hell the film is (or, just unhappy with the CGI).  Perhaps these clips will sway you one way or the other, but I found them to be really cool, especially the clip with Carter (Taylor Kitsch) interacting with the alien “dog.”  To me, it shows the film has some heart and playfulness mixed in with the heavy-handed action and effects.

And here are the new images:

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter” – a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

JOHN CARTER starts crackin’ white ape skulls on March 9th, 2012.
