New details emerge about the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

So, the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE reboot from producer Fede Alvarez (the EVIL DEAD remake) and directors Ryan and Andy Tohill (THE DIG) – coming out just three years after the last reboot – was set to start filming a couple days ago. But obviously, due to current world events, had to cancel the shoot.

However, in the meantime, The Illuminerdi were able to glean some information about the upcoming reboot, via the latest casting calls. Here's what they found out about their depiction of a 60 year old Leatherface (similar in age to Michael Myers in the recent HALLOWEEN reboot):

Interestingly, the character is listed as Leatherface aka Kenny. There have been a few different interpretations of the killer in the past, and he has been renamed several times in various origin stories. In this telling, he is 60 years old and characterized as having a big build. He is not a bodybuilder, and may even be slightly obese. He also wears church clothes that are too tightly fitted.

Leatherface is additionally described as complex, though he is also listed as a non-speaking role. He primarily expresses himself with guttural noises that range from a howling belly laugh to a pig-like squeal. His time is spent inside watching TV, which is something that triggers his laughter. It’s also revealed that he shields his face in an effort avoid his picture being taken.

Meanwhile, the story itself is reportedly about

two sisters, currently listed as Melody and Dreama. The older sister, Melody, is a 25-year old San Francisco moneymaker who drags her younger teenage sister with her to Texas on a business trip, out of fear of leaving her alone in the city.

On the other hand, Dreama is an amateur photographer and it should be noted is wheelchair bound and presumably disabled. This film is seemingly setting up a whole new mythology and placing the two sisters, the city girl and the other with special needs in the rural country, leaving them out of their respective elements both culturally and physically.

Obviously, no official release date has been set, but we'll keep you posted on any new updates!

So what do you guys think? Excited for a new TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE reboot? If so, what're your thoughts on an old Leatherface? Either way, sound off below!
