New details on where AMC’s spin-off of The Walking Dead will be set

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

THE WALKING DEAD spin-off, tentatively subtitled COBALT, has been in development for some time now. Aside from the fact it would follow a new group of survivors led by the recently cast Cliff Curtis, we didn’t know where it would be set geographically. Now, we know for certain there won’t be many southern accents or trudging through forests for these humans.

TV Line reports that THE WALKING DEAD spin-off will be set in Los Angeles, giving the series a sprawling, urban landscape for the walkers to roam around in. Setting the spin-off on the opposite coast of the United States minimizes the chance of Rick Grimes’ band of survivors running into this new group, but there is always the potential they could meet around Chicago in ten years or so.

THE WALKING DEAD remains AMC’s highest rated series and doesn’t look to be going anywhere soon. There is the chance they could over-saturate the viewers. But, it has worked for CSI and NCIS, so why not give us THE WALKING DEAD: LA?

THE WALKING DEAD returns to AMC on February 8, 2015 while the spin-off will debut sometime next year.
