New F13th: Redux scoop!

Screenwriter Mark Wheaton e-mailed us to let us
know that this scoop is FALSE. "Newman!"

Being a huge Friday the 13Th fan, I presently
have mixed feelings about the impending new entry (Slated to come out in
October of this year…good luck guys!).

GOOD: The screenwriter (Smiling Jack to ya
bubba) loves the genre to death and the director, Jonathan
Liebesman
, has talent to spare when a Studio isn’t in his way (a la

Darkness Falls
).

BAD: Its not a straight sequel (kind of a
prequel/sequel), I personally don’t want to know or give a shite about
Jason’s extensive origins and Platinum Dunes is Producing (too
slick/trendy/MTV of a company for Jason if you ask me).

Moments ago, “somebody” that took a gander at the screenplay
e-mailed me and here’s what he had to say. Take this info with a grain of
blood soaked salt
as its not a source that we know, but it sounds legit
to me.

This past weekend,
screenwriter Mark Wheaton turned in a ninety-six page draft regarding his
plans for the newly announced Friday the 13th re-imagining. After spending
much of my Saturday afternoon Xeroxing copies for studio heads (including
producer Brad Fuller and the now-directing John Liebesman), I was able to
take an hour break and skim through Jason’s newest slay-fest. Each day I’ll
give you a “taste” of some of the more interesting sequences of the script,
starting with the opening.

FIRST OFF: There is not a
single reference to JASON X or FREDDY VS. JASON to be found within the
story. Although the exact date for the sequence of events that are occurring
is never mentioned, the film takes place somewhere between the events of
JASON TAKES MANHATTAN and JASON GOES TO HELL.

This film, titled Friday the
13th: The Legend, opens in the style of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
with a group of just arrived Crystal Lake camp counselors sharing tales of
the infamous Jason Voorhees among a campfire. I’m interested to see how this
will play out, because they make reference to several of the more stand-out
kills of the first eight films (i.e. sleeping bag pounding, wheelchair
victim, cracking of the Sheriff in pt. 6) as wells as some of the “deaths”
that Jason endured (particularly the butchering in pt. 4’s finale).

With that, I’ll say this to those involved with Jason’s
next adventure…BREAK A LEG and DON’T F*CK IT UP!
