New Hunter Killer trailer features the most intense game of Battleship ever

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

A trailer for Summit Entertainment's HUNTER KILLER has breached the surface, featuring one of the most intense games of Battleship you've ever seen. Directed by Donovan Marsh (SPUD, DOLLAR$ + WHITE PIPES) and based on the 2012 novel Firing Point by Don Keith & George Wallace, the upcoming action thriller tells the story of an untested American submarine captain  who teams with U.S. Navy Seals to rescue the Russian president, who has been kidnapped by a rogue general. Timely is hardly the word describe this one, folks, and yet, here we are.

The film stars Gerard Butler (GEOSTORM, OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN) as Capt. Joe Glass, Gary Oldman as Commander Brad Crawford, Linda Cardellini as Jane Norquist, National Security Agency senior analyst, Common, and Caroline Goodall as United States President Dover.

Here's the official synopsis for the film:

Deep under the Arctic Ocean, American submarine Captain Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) is on the hunt for a U.S. sub in distress when he discovers a secret Russian coup is in the offing, threatening to dismantle the world order. With crew and country on the line, Captain Glass must now assemble an elite group of Navy SEALs to rescue the kidnapped Russian president and sneak through enemy waters to stop WWIII.

Playing much like OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN but with submarines, HUNTER KILLER looks to feature plenty of underwater entertainment, as United States officials enact a plan to rescue the Russian president as opposed to their own Woman of the People. It's an outlandish premise for sure, but hey, the action looks solid, and I'll be damned if a bit of cinematic silliness doesn't do the body good.

HUNTER KILLER will surface in theaters on October 26th.
