Been a while since we heard anything about this one, although I'd wager it wasn't necessarily at the top of the list for most of you. That said, never discount the power of an MMA fighter like Gina Carano, who has proven to do just fine on the big screen with flicks like HAYWIRE and FAST & FURIOUS 6. Now, Carano is once again taking the lead in IN THE BLOOD from director John Stockwell (ROCK STAR, INTO THE BLUE) and we now have a release date, poster, and some stills to hype it up. The film co-stars Cam Gigandet, Stephen Lang, Luis Guzman, Treat Williams, and Danny Trejo, which is a nice supporting cast to help Carano with her ass kicking ways.

Here's the poster:

Here's the synopsis:

Gina Carano stars as Ava, a trained fighter with a dark past. When her new husband (Cam Gigandet) vanishes during their Caribbean honeymoon, Ava uncovers a violent underworld of conspiracy in the middle of an island paradise. Armed with a deadly set of skills, Ava sets out to discover the truth – and to take down the men she thinks are responsible for his abduction, one by one.

I like Carano and, ultimately, would like to see her succeed beyond the straight-to-DVD market. She showed great potential in HAYWIRE, but of course she had great guidance with director Steven Soderbergh. I know a lot of folks were pissed that she didn't lock in the Wonder Woman role and I can understand that frustration to a point. Still, with the right choices and opportunities I can see Carano making a great go of this Hollywood thing. It's likely that IN THE BLOOD will just be a fun, cheesy actioner and that's okay; it's just another stepping stone. Hopefully, it leads up instead of down, though.

IN THE BLOOD hits limited theaters, iTunes, and On Demand on April 4, 2014.
