The financial success of SHUTTER ISLAND has me torn. On one hand, I couldn’t be happier that Marty Scorsese’s achieved his most lucrative film to date (in our beloved genre no less). On the other, I fret that very success will lead to one of the all time greatest filmmakers being hogtied to the studio system, in effect having to adhere to the cookie cutter formula said system imposes upon true artists. I seriously doubt the latter will occur, but a lot of money is a hard habit to kick. Anyway, now that we’ve all had ample time to see SHUTTER ISLAND, a cool little making of featurette has just been made available by the folks over at MakingOf.com. I suggest taking a look at it below!
What differs from most of the behind-the-scenes featurettes we’ve seen for the movie is the fact that author Dennis Lehane pops up this time around, offering some cool insight to the motivations behind writing such a story. We also catch a glimpse into Scorsese’s love of gothic horror, noting all the familiar tenets of the genre and how he incorporated them into SHUTTER ISLAND. We also hear some overlapping snippets of dialogue from prior videos, but don’t let that shite bother…just be lucky you get to listen to cinematic living legend spout pearls of wisdom.
For those who happened to miss SHUTTER ISLAND and need a bit of coaxing, read The Arrow’s review HERE, and check out all of our video footage for the film HERE.
Emily Mortimer’s scene with DiCaprio was pretty damn good, wasn’t it?!?
