Nobody had any delusions that NEW MOON would be in any place other than #1 when it came to the box office this past weekend. But could we have predicted just how much money this sucker was going to make in three days? Not in a million years.
NEW MOON brought in $140.7M over the weekend, taking second place for the most money made in a weekend ever (right behind 2008’s THE DARK KNIGHT with $158.4M), then took the top spot for best midnight gross ever ($26.3M), and the best first day gross ($72.7M). If you thought preteen girls didn’t have any power over Hollywood… think again!
That right there is a lot of money. $140M! I don’t think anyone was expecting a number like that. If nobody else goes to see this movie and it immediately falls out of the top 10 box office next week, it wouldn’t even matter at this point. It made all of it’s money back and then some, and is already profitable.
I’m stoked that NEW MOON did so well and is finally out because it means that this here will likely be my last NEW MOON article until the DVD comes out… thank Zeus for that!
