New Saw video game “will 100% happen”

The Saw film franchise has two video game tie-ins; Zombie Studios and Konami brought the first Saw game to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in 2009, and the second game – Saw II: Flesh & Blood – followed on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 the next year. Eleven years have gone by without any other Saw games being released, but Mark Burg and Oren Koules, founders of Twisted Pictures and producers of the Saw franchise, have assured fans that a third game “will 100% happen”.

This assurance came during a recent Reddit AMA session the duo participated in. When asked if there are any plans for future Saw video games, they replied:

100%. Lionsgate has brought us some amazing projects we are exploring now. But it will 100% happen.”

I was only vaguely aware that there ever had been a Saw game. These mostly slipped under my radar, but now I’m curious to see what a Saw video game is actually like. According to Coming Soon, Saw: The Video Game and Saw II: Flesh & Blood “were not received well”, so apparently it’s not a surprise that it’s taken a while for a third game to be made. It also didn’t help that the film franchise went on hiatus at the same time the second game was released.

The Saw film franchise currently consists of nine films. The first seven were released on an annual basis between 2004 and 2010. After a seven year break, Lionsgate released the sequel Jigsaw, and earlier this year we got the spin-off Spiral: From the Book of Saw.

We’ll keep you updated whenever there’s further news on another Saw video game – and, of course, whenever we hear there’s another movie on the way.

Have you played the Saw video games? If so, what did you think of them? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
