After laying dormant since the cancellation of Star Trek: Enterprise, Gene Roddenberry's sci-fi franchise made its triumphant return to television with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017, and since then, we've seen the launch of a handful of new Star Trek shows, with plenty more on the way.

In addition to Star Trek: Discovery, Paramount has also released Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks, with Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds just over the horizon as well. There's also a Section 31 series starring Michelle Yeoh in the works, and during a New York Times interview with Star Trek franchise producer Alex Kurtzman, it was also mentioned that a Starfleet Academy TV series is also in development. Much like Star Trek: Prodigy, it's said that this series will be aimed at a younger audience. That all adds to up quite a lot of Star Trek, but Alex Kurtzman said, "I think we’re just getting started. There’s just so much more to be had." This isn't the first time we've heard mention of a Starfleet Academy TV series, as such a show was mentioned over three years ago when Kurtzman set a five-year deal to oversee the Star Trek franchise. At the time, it was said that Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz, creators of The CW's Gossip Girl, were developing the series, but we haven't heard all that much since then.

Star Trek will be returning to our screens next week with the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks on August 12th, followed by the fourth season of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Prodigy later this year. The second season of Star Trek: Picard will launch next year, as will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will follow the adventures of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn).
