New writers hired for Chronicle 2 and Splinter Cell

We have a bit of scribe news for you this lovely spring day. First up is from Doug Liman’s SPLINTER CELL.

Sheldon Turner has been hired to script a new draft of the video game adaptation. The writer has an interesting resume that includes credits on THE LONGEST YARD, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING, UP IN THE AIR, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and the upcoming, EVEREST. He’s got a little bit of everything here. The film will bring together Liman, Turner, and Tom Hardy before they take on another EVEREST. Yes, there’s two of them. The first one out the gate is from director Baltasar Kormakur with Sam Worthington, Robin Wright, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal, Martin Henderson, and Emily Watson to star.

I’m guessing when it comes time for Liman to make his George Malloy biopic that the name will get a slight change.

That said, I’ll be looking forward to what Turner brings to the table on SPLINTER CELL.

CHRONICLE 2 was at one point still safe in the hands of Max Landis until apparently the studio decided they did wanted to go with a different vision. So who will now pen what Fox wants? A newcomer by the name of Jack Stanley.

Stanley’s only credit is for a blacklist script for SWEETHEART, the story of “a female assassin whose attempt to get out of the biz is thrown awry by her high school reunion.” That sounds kind of cool. The spec script was good enough that the studio took notice. Stanley has another gem, a werewolf thriller called SILVER, which is also trying to get the pick up. I’m sure with this news, both the scripts will find homes.

Landis wanted to initially tell the story of “a heartbroken and insane woman who would martyr herself to the cause of being the world’s first villain.” That I would have liked to see.
