Magnet Films is getting into the “deadly viral outbreak” game with RETREAT, it was announced today via Screen Daily. However, it remains to be seen if it’s really about a killer virus at all…

Thandie Newton (pictured below), Jason Isaacs and David Tennant (pictured right as “Doctor Who”) are attached to star in the psychological thriller, to be directed by newcomer Carl Tibbetts. The story follows a couple (played by Newton and Isaacs) who are seeking to rebuild their relationship by taking time out on a remote island but their peace is shattered when they find a man in military uniform (Tennant) half-dead on their doorstep who tells them there is a lethal virus killing millions on the mainland.

Producer Gary Sinyor compares the script to DEAD CALM, so it appears as though this flick will be more about the tension between the three characters than the lethal virus. It has the potential to be an intense ride either way.

Shooting is due to begin in May in Canada.
