I’ve no idea what to expect from GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE, although considering the fact that it’s coming from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, I guess you can call me cautiously optimistic. In fact, the only way you could get me interested in a sequel to the absolutely dreadful first movie is by hiring two insane maniacs (and friends of the site, of course) known for directing movies about the regenerative powers of banging your girlfriend in public to direct it.
Nicolas Cage seems to think it’s a good thing they’re on board, too. In an interview with Digital Spy, the actor dished a little about the duo’s unusual technique:
“It’s really fresh and original. Mark is like a stuntman, camera operator, director all rolled into one. He’s literally risking his life to get shots. On rollerblades, on bungee cords, he’s even patented the rollerblading stuff because no-one else in the business is doing that.”
“And then Brian Taylor is just a walking encyclopedia about movies. We’ve had great conversations about all kinds of films.”
I’ve got to admit, I think it’s pretty cool that Neveldine/Taylor are pulling their old tricks on this flick, which is surely their biggest to date. I’m sure they’ve got massive resources available to them, yet here they are, still operating the camera themselves, still going rogue and making like it’s an indie they’ve self-funded.
Finally, Cage wants us to know that GHOST RIDER 2 is going to be something altogether fresh and unusual.
“It’s not going to be like any other comic book movie you’ve seen,” said Cage. “We keep stressing that Ghost Rider is the most supernatural superhero of all and that’s going to really come out in this movie.”
We’ll find out when the movie opens in FEBRUARY of next year.
