Nick Groff is one of the most respected names in television and beyond when it comes to the paranormal. He has had incredible experiences in some of the most haunted locations in the world. As a friend to Arrow in the Head, we’ve shared some very exciting experiences with Nick including a couple of wild and spooky moments that we’ve managed to capture on camera. Thus, we’ve decided to work with the television host and producer extraordinaire so he can share his knowledge and insight on all things that go bump in the night. With this bi-monthly column, we plan to delve into everything from urban legends to ghostly apparitions, to his take on some of the coolest genre flicks ever. This is Nick Groff Investigates…!

THE DYE HOUSE

One of the most fascinating things about working with Nick Groff is the knowledge and history he has shared over the years. Considering many of the locations he investigates tend to have a history of tragic events, it’s no surprise that he has been to some fascinating locations that hold many secrets. Recently, Nick and I were talking movies, and I’ve been nonstop praising my personal favorite film of the year, 1917. This astounding work is about as far from typical genre as you can get of course, and normally it wouldn’t really make sense to discuss on a horror heavy website. However, after seeing the film himself, Nick was just as impressed. In fact, after he went to a screening, he was as moved as I was and had this to say about his experience:

“[1917 is] one of the most epic films to date following a story through battle. A continuous camera shot tracking the perspective of soldiers on a mission. Incredible cinematography and choreographed action! Sam Mendes pushing his directing skills to the limit! A must experience film at its finest!”

This  brought us to the  the subject of war and the tragedy it leaves behind. Thus after a ton of movie talk, our discussion turned to Nick’s investigations in the Southern states, particularly Civil War historical sites. Which then lead to a chat about a number of places he’s had experiences in. As well, it felt like an interesting time to explore the very locations where battles were fought and history was made. One of his destinations happened to be a place known as The Dye House, which is located on the Perryville Battlefield in Kentucky. I’d had very little knowledge about this place, but Nick informed me about its history and the many strange experiences he’s had there – see the video below to get a taste. As for the rest, I’ll let Mr. Groff fill you in on this story, but if you’d like to read more on the history of Perryville, I highly recommend you check out this link on the Perryville Battlefield website!

“Learning about the history is key to understanding how the location has been affected and possibly why hauntings occur. Battlefields hold so much emotion and energy from the tragedies and blood ingrained into the ground. Perryville Battlefield is a special place to me because of the connection with the spirits that I had the opportunity to communicate with while I investigated the land and the Dye House. The emotions are filled with sadness and you can feel the energy still looping.

The Dye House is an interesting location. My recorder was communicating with another voice on the other side that was intelligent. My full name would come through within the white noise and I captured a voice that said "I go to heaven and travel back to visit". I found that audio captured very fascinating. I've always wondered if whoever I was communicating with was actually dead or just in another time during the war communicating as if their energy and thoughts where being picked up by my recorder on another frequency. Were the soldiers thinking these thoughts about going to heaven and coming back to the Dye House to fight for their beliefs, or is the energy just continuing before they passed on to the other side?

So many questions I still have as time has moved forward for me. I would like to return someday with new technology to further the investigation to some of these questions that I now have. Stepping onto the battlefield was very emotional but it also taught me how special life is and why humans fight for what they believe in. One of the most tragic battlefields to see a lot of death within a short period of time. We must not forget how the past has shaped our world now. There is always a meaning behind a locations past and we shouldn't forget the tragic story.

Remembering that there are layers upon layers still looping as energy continues to linger. I will not forget my experience and all the direct communication I received. I felt privileged to give a voice to the ones that came through and spoke. Their stories will forever live on through the video and audio captured, and this article. Thank you!”
