I don’t know what it is but there are just some actors I enjoy watching. I’m sure I’m not alone either. Some actors just have that appeal to them where you like almost anything they’re in. Two actors that fall into that cateogry for me are Nicolas Cage and John Cusak. So it goes without saying that I dug CON-AIR a lot, regardless of Cage’s accent.
So when word crawls on over from Variety on another project these two guys are teaming up for, well it’s going to catch my attention. Then I hear the flick is about a real-life Alaskan serial killer and that Cusak will be playing said killer and I’m completely sold. Some of you may need a little more convincing so allow me to get to the brass tacks of this whole thing.
The project I’m talking about is something called FROZEN GROUND and is indeed based on the real-life tale of serial killer Robert Hansen. Check out the detailed rundown:
Hansen, a respected family man, systematically abducted some two dozen women and flew them into the Alaskan wilderness where he released and then hunted them. Story will follow a trooper who finds one of Hansen’s victims alive on the street who becomes the key in an unlikely partnership that brings Hansen to justice.
Hansen was arrested in 1983 and charged with four murders and, as part of a plea bargain, agreed to show police where the graves of the murdered women were. He was sentenced to 461 years in prison and is currently imprisoned at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Alaska.
As I mentioned, Cusak will be playing Hansen while Cage has signed on to star as the Alaska State Trooper who cracked the case. Ah so the duo’s CON-AIR partnership is reversed with Cage tracking down Cusak this time around. I can dig it.
New Zealander Scott Walker will be making his directorial debut on this thing from a script he wrote. Tapped with a $27 million budget, FROZEN GROUND is set to start filming in Anchorage on October 10th.
So what do you guys think? Like I said I’m completely sold on this shite and it has shot up my most anticipated list. I’m sure some of you out there share my enthusiasm right? Spit some bullets below and let us know how you’re feeling about FROZEN GROUND and be sure to keep it here for more on the project as we hear it.
