Nicolas Cage says it is “highly unlikely” he will join The Expendables 3

Well this sucks. In May it sounded like it was a done deal that Nicolas Cage was going to join the cast of THE EXPENDABLES 3. But in an interview with Den of Geek the actor was asked point-blank about the reports he had signed on to the film, and this is what he had to say:

I have not had any formal discussions about that movie.

He also went on to debunk the rumor that he'll appear in KICK-ASS 2:

I'm not in Kick-Ass 2 and I don't think I'm in Expendables 3. And I like those guys, but I would say it would be highly unlikely that I'd be in that movie.

There may not have been formal discussions, but I think there must have been a least a couple of conversations about Cage joining THE EXPENDABLES 3. Maybe his agent with someone from the studio or Sylvester Stallone drunkenly calling him up one night, I do believe someone near the top of the food chain for THE EXPENDABLES 3 at least floated the idea of the actor appearing in the movie. It's just too good of an idea to ignore. Can you imagine Nicolas Cage as Mel Gibson's crazy enforcer/right hand man or legendary assassin?

But I think we all know there's only one thing Nicolas Cage really wants in life: cake.
