Nightmare Before Christmas live-action remake & sequel in the works?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

One of the most beloved kid-friendly horror-ish movies of all-time is Tim Burton and director Henry Selick's THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I don't know about you, but my family and I watch the movie every Halloween. And every Christmas. And every other weekend, it seems. And it's with this love of the holiday classic in mind that we're excited to pass along word that Disney is in talks to “do something with 'Nightmare Before Christmas' – probably a sequel but live-action possible.”

MovieHole got the scoop and they say this news doesn't mean there’s a live-action “Nightmare” movie on the way – but only that Disney is "considering all options for some sort of sequel or follow-up," and those options include a live-action remake ala THE LION KING, THE JUNGLE BOOK, and ALADDIN. We'll let you know once we hear more on this possible new NIGHTMARE, but until then make sure to hit us up and let us know which you'd prefer, a live-action remake of NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS or a stop-motion sequel. If either.

Produced by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick (CORALINE) the original film followed:

The misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the "real world." When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life — he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.

Denise Di Novi produced THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS along with Burton from a screenplay written by Caroline Thompson and Michael McDowell based on a story and characters created by Burton. The film featured the voice talents of Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Glenn Shadix, Paul Reubens, Ken Page, and Ed Ivory with music by Danny Elfman.
