Well this sucks. We told you here about the awesome news that a whole scene from SAW III would run during the previews before Jason Statham’s upcoming adrenaline rush CRANK. No more my friends. No more.
We’ve gotten word that the footage proved too intense for exhibition. What?! It’s not like the movie it’d be attached to is FANTASIA. It’s a goddamn high-octane thriller in which we know that Statham gets a hummer while shooting the shite out of a bunch of bad motherf*ckers. Too intense my ass.
Truthfully this sounds to me like either a problem with the footage, or a clever (but annoying) marketing scheme put together to build buzz. Regardless it’s a pretty bad mistake, because I can guarantee you that CRANK’s opening box office is likely to dip as a result.
We are told that Lionsgate is investigating an AgeGate / age appropriate online outlet to debut the footage. Presumably because it’s much harder to fake your age online than it is at a theater.
This blows.
