No vamps in Informers

Vampires are all the rage today it would seem – or in this case, the lack thereof. The word coming from IGN – courtesy of an interview they did with actor Jon Foster – is that the adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis book THE INFORMERS is losing the vampires.

In the novel, we meet dozens of disillusioned, spaced-out, drugged-out heathens as they cruise and crawl through life in 1990s L.A. A few of these characters are vampires – the main one being the vapid “Jaimie” – who was supposed to be played by Brandon “Superman” Routh… Now it would seem that either Routh is out, or playing the role straight… Here’s what Foster says:

“There are no more vampires. They took the vampires out. There are no zombies or monsters either. This is more about the narcissistic side of people’s characters. God knows why they took the vampire characters out. I can’t say if I was pleased or displeased, that is just the way it is.”

Not mentioned is an alien (or is he?) that shows up toward the end of the book. I’m going to guess that weirdness was taken out as well…

The screenplay was co-written by Ellis, so perhaps it was his call. Gregor Jordan is directing a cast that also includes Winona Ryder, Billy Bob Thornton, Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Amber Heard, and the late Brad Renfro. It will most likely be released toward the end of the year.

Amber Heard, just chillin’ in my pool…
