Nosferatu remake coming from The Witch director Robert Eggers

The remake train keeps on chugging, and this time it’s picking up one of the oldest chillers in movie history: NOSFERATU, F.W. Murnau’s 1922 silent classic about a monstrous vampire. That film was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula and now stands as one of the great horror flicks of all time; its unforgettably creepy villain is still influential to this day.

Taking the helm of NOSFERATU (that’s just the working title for now) will be Robert Eggers, whose directorial debut THE WITCH made a big splash during the Sundance Film Festival; Eggers wound up winning the Directing Award for the atmospheric period piece.

The synopsis for Murnau’s NOSFERATU:

A long time ago in middle Europe, a decrepit, forbidding castle stood. Casting an ominous shadow over the townspeople who dare not look upon it, the unholy dwelling is home to one Count Orlok, an undead night creature with a taste for human blood.

Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 and Jay Van Hoy & Lars Knudsen’s Parts and Labor will produce.

Wonder if this somehow ties into Murnau’s recently missing skull?
