Who’s ready to roll the dice on another Ocean’s Eleven movie? Personally, I like the odds of a Margot Robbie-led prequel finding tremendous success at the box office. Besides, she won’t be placing bets alone, as new reports say several actors are joining the project. Among the new additions are the German-Luxembourgish actress Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Hot Milk, The Dead Don’t Hurt), George MacKay (1917, Captain Fantastic, How I Live Now), Lauren Ridloff (Eternals, Sound of Metal, The Walking Dead), Omar Sy (Lupin, Shadow Force, The Killer), Jack Holden (The Leveling, The Pardoner’s Tale, Ten Percent), and Josh Gad (Wolf Like Me, Little Monsters, Beauty and the Beast).
The star-studded cast already includes Margot Robbie (Barbie, Wuthering Heights, The Wolf of Wall Street), Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born, American Sniper, Silver Linings Playbook), Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord), and Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown, FUBAR, Top Gun: Maverick), with Cooper also in the director’s chair.
In addition to directing the prequel, Cooper will produce the project alongside Robbie via her LuckyChap studio. Cameras should begin rolling in Paris before moving to the South of France later this month.
According to the film’s description, Cooper’s Ocean’s Eleven prequel is a period heist comedy set at the 1963 Monaco Grand Prix. Robbie and Cooper play parents in the picture, while Moura plays the villain. Details about who the new hires will be are unknown.
In addition to the Ocean’s prequel, there’s another potential sequel in the works, which would bring back George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and a few other members of the original ensemble. Clooney teased the project back in 2023, saying, “We have a really good script for another Ocean’s now, so we may end up doing another one. It’s actually a great script.” The actor wouldn’t spill any other details, only to say that “the idea is kind of Going in Style.” The film Clooney refers to is a 1979 heist comedy starring George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg as three friends who decide to rob a bank.
Clooney said the studio has approved the budget, so it all comes down to scheduling. “We just got the budget approved at Warner Bros. and we’re trying to set up,” he said. “It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us, probably start in about nine or 10 months, shooting.”
