UPDATE: Producer Seth Rogen has made it official via Twitter: Dominic Cooper will play Jesse Custer in Preacher.

Original article:

With all the Preacher casting news that has been floating around lately, it’s been interesting to note all the names becoming attached to the supernatural series have been secondary characters, with the lead protagonist – Jesse Custer – nowhere to be found. Well, perhaps AMC was just saving the best for last, as it appears they’ve zeroed in on their star.

The Wrap reports Dominic Cooper (IRON MAN 2, DRACULA UNTOLD) is closing in on a deal to play Custer, the tortured main man at the center of Preacher. It’s not 100% official yet, but it’s looking like Cooper’s the guy for AMC and producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

The project, from Sony TV and AMC Studios, is about..

Jesse Custer, a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

Lucy Griffiths recently joined as a no-nonsense, single mother named Emily, while Ian Coletti will play Arseface.
