Well folks, it’s official…after weeks of back and forth hearsay, Harrison Ford has signed on to play a role in Gavin Hood’s adaptation of ENDER’S GAME. Yes, that means he’ll be keeping his alien-fighting ways intact. Yippee!
According to Variety, a number of younger actors have joined the Odd Lot production as well. We already knew Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld were aboard, but word now is they will be joined by Abigail Breslin, as well as Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy “Jax” Pinchak, Suraj Parthasarathy, Conor Carroll and Khylin Rhambo. This sucker’s definitely starting to take shape.
As for Ford, he will play Colonel Hyram Graff, who’s in charge of training the young male recruits at an elite military academy. Breslin will play Valentine Wiggin, Ender’s older sister, while Steinfeld will play Petra Arkanian, Ender’s ally and trusted right hand.
Knight, who previously appeared in Hood’s “Rendition,” will play Bean, the smallest new recruit; Arias (“Hannah Montana”) will play Bonzo, the commander of Salamander Army; Pinchak (“Let Me In”) will play Peter Wiggin, Ender’s brilliant but tortured older brother; and Parthasarathy will play Alai, the first recruit to befriend Ender.
Carroll (“Away We Go”) will play Bernard, the leader of the new recruits who bullies Ender at first; and Rhambo will play Dink, a brainy member of Rat Army.
Nice, we get to see Harry flex a little authority. I love it when he plays a bad guy, rare for sure, but all the more rewarding when done convincingly. Let’s hope that’s the case with ENDER’S GAME.
