A mighty tall ask, but if anyone can try to replicate the sheer horror of Piper Laurie, Julianne Moore’s as good as it gets!
It’s official folks, the ginger headed beauty (seen right) has indeed been set by MGM to play Carrie White’s religious zealot of a mother Margaret in the remake of CARRIE. Word has that youngster Gabriella Wilde (below) is also in talks to join the cast of Kimberly Price’s retelling of the Stephen King classic. If it all works out, Wilde will play the role of Sue Snell, memorably portrayed by Amy Irving in De Palma’s original.

In one way or another, everybody abused Carrie. Her fanatical mother forbade this sixteen-year-old misfit everything that was young and fun. She was teased and taunted by her classmates, misunderstood by her teachers, and given up as hopeless by almost everyone.
But Carrie had a secret: she possessed terrifying telekinetic powers that could make inanimate objects move, a lighted candle fall, or a door lock. Carrie could make all kinds of startling bizarre, and malevolent things happen. And so she did one night, when feeling scorned and humiliated…and growing angrier and angrier…she became the vengeful demon who let the whole town feel her power.
Alright, so how do we like the casting so far? Remember, Chloe Moretz has been set to play the titular lead, we all know she’s as talented as anyone under 20. Moore consistently turns in solid work, the latest being in HBO’s GAME CHANGE as Alaska governor Sarah Palin. My guess is that’s role far more daunting than playing Margaret White, maybe that frees Moore up to do something as fearless as Piper Laurie’s Oscar nominated performance. I’m hopeful.
