Naomie Harris thinks Olivia Colman should replace her as Moneypenny

Olivia Colman, Moneypenny, James Bond, No Time to Die

With No Time to Die bringing Daniel Craig’s run as James Bond to a close, we’ll be seeing a new actor take on the secret agent. In addition to a new 007, we may very well see new actors take on the roles of Bond’s friends and allies. Over the decades we’ve seen multiple actors play M, Q, Felix Leiter, and Moneypenny and the latest actor to play Moneypenny as a great idea of who should succeed her. Naomie Harris played Moneypenny in Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die, and while speaking to ScreenRant, she revealed that the great Olivia Colman (The Crown) should replace her.

I just think Olivia Colman, whatever she does is amazing. And I would just love to see her spin on Moneypenny.

While it might be difficult to imagine Olivia Colman wanting to take part in a James Bond film, she has expressed a desire to do so in the past. Colman worked with Phoebe Waller-Bridge on Fleabag, and when it was revealed that Waller-Bridge would have a hand in writing No Time to Die, Colman told Entertainment Weekly that she tried to convince Waller-Bridge to write a role for her. Could you see Olivia Colman as the new Moneypenny?

Moneypenny has traditionally served as the secretary of M, James Bond’s superior. The role was originally played by Lois Maxwell, who played the character throughout the runs of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, and Roger Moore. Caroline Bliss played Moneypenny in the Timothy Dalton films while Samantha Bond took on the role in the Pierce Brosnan years. The franchise has proven that secondary characters don’t necessarily need to change actors when Bond does, so there’s no rule that Naomie Harris can’t continue as Moneypenny, but given how No Time to Die ended, the producers might be looking at a hard reboot for all involved.

No Time to Die is now available on 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray.
