How does a Spanish horror flick called JULIA’S EYES sound? What if you knew the shite was being produced by Guillermo del Toro?

Well folks, turns out such a flick by Guillem Morales (THE UNINVITED GUEST) is not only in post-production, the film has just been acquired by Optimum Releasing for U.K. distribution. Universal has already locked deals to bring the picture to Spain, France and Latin America. No word yet when the flick will find stateside distribution, but with all of the aforementioned deals coming by way of the recent EFM (European Film Market), we should know something soon.

Touted as a “hotly anticipated horror,” JULIA’S EYES stars Belén Rueda as a woman trying to investigate the mysterious death of her twin sister as she battles with losing her eyesight. Lluis Homar also stars.

The film is co-produced by del Toro, Focus Features and Rodar Y Rodar. Morales co-writes with Oriol Paulo (THE BODY), with the picture carrying a roughly estimated $7.5 million budget.

Daniel Grao, Hector Claramunt, Julia Gutierrez Caba, Francesc Orella, Joan Dalmau, Pablo Derqui, Boris Ruiz, Carlos Fabregas, Victor Benjumea, Laura Barba, Dani Codina and Oscar Foronda comprise the rest of the ensemble.

Optimum Releasing bought the rights from DeAplaneta.
