Original Gizmo voice actor Howie Mandel not returning for animated series

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

GREMLINS is an 80's property that I'm surprised didn't already have an animated series based on it. Hell, even more adult fare like RAMBO, ROBOCOP, and ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES got Saturday Morning Cartoons! But that's all about to change with the upcoming HBO Max animated series GREMLINS: SECRETS OF THE MOGWAI.

Here's the official synopsis:

Set in 1920s Shanghai, Secrets of the Mogwai will tell the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo.

Meanwhile, Geek Vibes Nation recently scored an interview with executive producer of the series, Tze Chun. In the interview, he mentioned some interesting tidbits about the show, such as the fact that production on the show is still moving ahead due to already mostly being set up to be remote, that the show will be serialized and feature "evil" Mogwai that apparently are different than the eponymous Gremlins, and that – as the headline points out – Howie Mandel won't be reprising his role as the voice of Gizmo, but that other cast members from the film's may make cameos.

Meanwhile, GREMLINS: SECRETS OF THE MOGWAI will be premiering on HBO Max sometime next year.

So what do you guys think? Fans of the GREMLINS films? If so, are you up for an animated series? Either way, sound off below!
