Word has come down the wire that HBO has given the go-ahead to SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE, a limited series adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic miniseries, starring and executive produced by Michelle Williams and Oscar Isaac. Hailing from Our Boys and The Affair co-creator Hagai Levi, Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res and Endeavor Content, the series adaptation re-examines the show’s iconic depiction of love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Levi will write and direct the series. (via Deadline)

Bergman wrote and directed the original Swedish miniseries in 1973, which starred Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson. When needing fuel for his creative fire, Bergman fed upon his own experiences, including the challenges he'd faced while being in a relationship with Ullman.

Williams recently completed work on VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE, for which she will reprise her role as Anne Weying. You can also catch her in the 2019 TV mini-series FOSSE/VERDON, in which she plays American actress and dancer Gwen Verdon. As for Isaac, he'll soon star as Duke Leto Atreides for director Denis Villeneuve's DUNE, which is planned for a December 18, 2020 release in theaters. Beyond that, he's also got BIG GOLD BRICK on the way, which is a comedic drama directed by Brian Petos that recounts the story of fledgling writer Samuel Liston and his experiences with Floyd Deveraux, the enigmatic, middle-aged father of two who enlists Samuel to write his biography.

Despite being in the midst of a global pandemic, Hollywood continues to thrive as new projects are being announced daily. I'll be curious to see when much of what's been announced goes into production, seeing as many studios are still hammering out the logistics of making sets safe for cast and crew. The film industry has some steep hills to climb in the coming months, so here's hoping that they discover the safest path toward arriving back on top.
