Oscar Isaac & Bryan Singer respond to criticisms on Apocalypse’s appearance

Oscar Isaac X-Men: Apocalypse Bryan Singer

Although X-MEN fans have warmed up a little more to Oscar Isaac's X-MEN: APOCALYPSE appearance, when the first image of the titular villain was released there weren't too many people singing its praises, and that includes Apocalypse himself. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE star Oscar Isaac revealed that he wasn't overly pleased with his character's introduction to the masses.

I was not super pleased with those first photos that ran. When you look at those things, you think that’s the representation of the character, and it was a shot from when we were coming out of a portal, and the portal light is purple and so suddenly everyone thinks that the character is purple which is not the case.

As for Bryan Singer, he was experiencing a little bit of déjà vu as he flashed back to when he first cast Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-MEN. "Can you imagine what it was like for fans 16 years ago when I cast 6-foot-3 Hugh Jackman to play 5-foot-4 Wolverine in X-Men? Can you imagine the reactions I got? I nearly got crucified." As we now know, that particular bit of casting turned out alright. At one point Singer was considering making Apocalypse a computer-generated character, but he ultimately decided that it would be better to have Oscar Isaac on set in order to connect with the other actors.

Instead of giving him CG make up, I thought it was very important that he connect with the horsemen, that he connect with the movie. We built a suit and enhanced Oscar’s size. But nonetheless to be as intimate and persuasive in his interaction with our lead characters, I made the decision to have him for the most part be in human form.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 and you can read a review from our Eric Walkuski own right here!
