OUTLANDER is one of those moves that seems so cool it’s destined to be pushed to the wayside. It’s from The Weinstein Company, so of course I wouldn’t expect any different, as every movie they ever have on their hands they’re content to let sit and molder while everyone else wonders what the f*ck is wrong with them. It has been seen in some select territories overseas, and the buzz has been good, but still no sign of it here in North America. There has been talk of it going straight-to-DVD, which is either an indicator that it’s bad or, more likely, these guys don’t know what to do with it. Big surprise… We’ll just wait until the goddamned end of time, how’s that sound?
Anyway, if you’re anxious for a peek at this flick, there are five scenes from it (dubbed in Spanish, since it’s being released there later this month) over at the Official Site. Looks pretty entertaining if Medieval sword and sorcery is your thing. And it was good enough to land director Howard McCain a writing gig on the upcoming CONAN movie, so something must have gone right…
As an age old battle rages amongst the stars, Kainan’s ship burns brightly as it crashes into the Nordic coast. As his space craft comes to rest in the fjords of ancient Norway, it’s with dismay that Kainan realizes that he wasn’t the only survivor. A second passenger, a Moorwen also emerges from the wreckage. A Fierce and animal-like creature, the Moorwen is intent on causing harm to those it perceives have wronged it. As the Moorwen kills everything in its path, Kainan must work together with the Vikings to destroy the beast before it destroys them all.
OUTLANDER stars Jim Caviezel, Ron Perlman (another sign of coolness), John Hurt, and the lovely Sophia Myles (pictured below).
