Pacific Heights TV reboot to have gender role reversal

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Thirty-one years ago, Michael Keaton, Melanie Griffith, and Matthew Modine starred in the psychological horror film Pacific Heights (watch it HERE), a Morgan Creek production directed by John Schlesinger from a screenplay by Daniel Pyne. In a recent interview with Park Circus, the folks at Morgan Creek revealed that they're returning to the concept of Pacific Heights for

an open-ended dramatic series with a surprising and cheeky gender role reversal.

The original Pacific Heights had the following synopsis:

Unmarried yuppies Patty (Griffith) and Drake (Modine) move into an expensive dream home in a high-end neighborhood in San Francisco. As they renovate the house, they look for a tenant for the first floor of their house. Carter Hayes (Keaton) seems like a great fit at first, but it transpires that he is a con artist who plans to swindle them out of their real estate. As Hayes tries to drive them out of their own home, the couple must take drastic measures to fight back.

If the TV series has a "cheeky gender role reversal", I guess the villain will be female this time around.

Pacific Heights is just one of many reboots of older properties that Morgan Creek has in the works. Previously announced projects include an Amazon series based on David Cronenberg's Dead Ringers (with Rachel Weisz set to star), a new entry in the Exorcist franchise that will be produced by Blumhouse and directed by David Gordon Green, and a reboot of the 2011 film Dream House.
