Paramount must like what they see so far from the alien invasion tale STORY OF YOUR LIFE, because they just dished out a ton of dough to acquire it. The trades are reporting Paramount spent $20 million to distribute the Denis Villenueve film in North America. They’re also looking to distribute in China, while other territories will surely be lining up at the Cannes Film Festival to snag it.
Also noteworthy: Amy Adams was rumored to be the lead back in April, and now she appears to be officially on board.
STORY OF YOUR LIFE takes place after alien crafts land around the world. An expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.
FilmNation is financing and producing Story of Your Life with Lava Bear and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps. Eric Heisserer (THE THING) wrote the script, based on the short story by Ted Chang.
