Though PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4’s opening weekend brought in roughly $10 million less than its predecessor, Paramount is moving forward with PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 and its yet-to-be-named, Latino-themed spinoff.
PA5 will be directed by Christopher (son of Michael) Landon, who wrote both DISTURBIA and PA 2-4. Of course, production on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 will remain a mystery until shooting begins a week or two before the film’s release date (I kid), but we do have minor details on the Spanish-language offshoot.
The spring 2013 slated spin-off is set to “begin shooting shortly.” (I don’t kid). As teased in the post-credits of part 4, the project has Toby the Demon signed on to reprise his iconic role alongside a cast of predominately Latino actors. Sources at Paramount report: ”This will be an off-shoot aimed at the groups who have been the biggest supporters of the property – Latinos and folks in Latin America – Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina…”
Jeez, you’d think a big studio like Paramount would dismiss such old- timey racist stereotypes as “Latinos love PARANORMAL ACTIVITY movies.” I thought we moved beyond that mode of thinking way back when the first film was released in 2009. Anyway, as a guy who has yet to see PA 4, I’m curious to know what you guys think of yet another entry in the series and/or bilingual spin-off? Hip-hip-hooray or ask to make the pain go away below.
