New Paranormal Activity movie reaches Paramount Plus by the end of 2021

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse Productions are bringing the world a new Paranormal Activity movie, one that's being described as an "unexpected retooling" of the franchise. Paramount has previously announced that the film is going to be released through their Paramount Plus streaming service rather than going to theatres – and now it has been confirmed that this is going to be a 2021 release.

During the ViacomCBS first-quarter earnings conference call yesterday, the company's CEO Bob Bakish said,

new original movies like Paranormal Activity and The In Between will premiere on Paramount+ by the end of '21."

Paramount is putting a strong focus on building up their streaming service. They intend to have 2,500 library titles on there by the end of July, and A Quiet Place Part II will also be available to watch on Paramount Plus 45 days after it reaches theatres. They're aiming even higher in 2022: Bakish said Paramount Plus expects to begin averaging "an original movie a week" in 2022.

The new Paranormal Activity is being directed by Underwater's Will Eubank from a screenplay by franchise regular Christopher Landon. The film stars Emily Bader, Roland Buck III, Dan Lippert, and Henry Ayres-Brown.

Paranormal Activity creator Oren Peli is producing the film with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum. Landon is executive producing alongside Steven Schneider.
