The Conjuring Universe is continuing to grow (no surprise, these movies are very successful), with the next installment in the series being a third film about the demon doll ANNABELLE. This time, the action is going to take place at the home of Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators at the core of this universe, the leads in the THE CONJURING movies.

As soon as ANNABELLE 3 writer/director Gary Dauberman announced the setting for the new film, we began to wonder if THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga would actually be reprising the roles of Ed and Lorraine for this spin-off. Up to this point, they have stayed in the CONJURING movies and haven't starred in any of the spin-offs (ANNABELLE, ANNABELLE: CREATION, THE NUN).

Well, here's the answer: Wilson and Farmiga aren't going to star in ANNABELLE 3, but they have signed on to play Ed and Lorraine in it, "in a supporting capacity".

It sounds like Ed and Lorraine will be missing out on most, if not all, of the paranormal activity in the film. The story begins

with the Warrens bringing the Annabelle doll to a place where she can no longer wreak havoc: their Artifacts Room. Annabelle awakens the room’s evil which sets its sights on a new target: the Warrens’ ten year old daughter Judy. The young girl, along with her teenage babysitter cousin and the cousin’s friend, square off against the evil doll.

So Ed and Lorraine aren't going to be home when Annabelle starts causing trouble again.

Mckenna Grace will be playing Judy, with Madison Iseman as her babysitter cousin. We're still waiting to hear who will be playing the cousin's friend.

I'm glad to hear that Wilson and Farmiga will be appearing in ANNABELLE 3, but I'm also glad that they're not going to be starring in it. If Ed and Lorraine are dealing with the supernatural it should be in a CONJURING movie, not one of the spin-offs.

The third ANNABELLE is being produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, with Michael Clear and Michelle Morrissey executive producing.

Filming begins this week, and the spin-off sequel is set to reach theatres on July 3, 2019.
