Patrick Wilson signed on to Aquaman before there was even a script

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Over the past eight years, Patrick Wilson has appeared in four of James Wan's movies, including INSIDIOUS, THE CONJURING, INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2, and THE CONJURING 2, so it's probably no surprise that the actor would immediately agree to any project which the director proposed. It was during the production of THE CONJURING 2 when James Wan told Patrick Wilson that he would be directing AQUAMAN, and naturally, there would be a part for Wilson if he wanted it.

While speaking with THR, Patrick Wilson said that he actually signed on before there was even a script for AQUAMAN. "I signed on before there was a script, before there was anything," Wilson recalled. "My agents were like, 'Do you know what the role is?' And I was like, 'Yeah, it's this guy.' I show them pictures. [They asked], 'Is it a big part?' I'm like, 'Guys, he's not going to waste my time. I know that.'" That's a fair amount of trust, but I'd say that Wan had earned it. Patrick Wilson will be playing Orm in AQUAMAN, Arthur Curry's (Jason Momoa) half-brother and the current ruler of Atlantis who seeks to unite the seven underwater kingdoms to declare war on the surface world.

Speaking of Jason Momoa, the actor also spoke to THR about how he's been trying to get his 8-year-old son to come around to the character of Aquaman. Despite being a member of the Justice League, neither of Momoa's child were about to call Aquaman their favourite hero, with his daughter preferring Wonder Woman and his son favouring Batman. That may have changed when Jason Momoa was able to screen the AQUAMAN trailer for his family prior to its release at San Diego Comic-Con. "They were supposed to go to bed at nine. They ended up going to bed at 11, and they were just beating me up," Momoa said. "I have this picture of my son, who taped sticks together and made his own trident. It's amazing." Sorry, Ben Affleck.

AQUAMAN is slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
