Showtime’s Victorian horror drama Penny Dreadful is getting prepped for its third season. The network has announced that it’ll introduce Dr. Jekyll in S3, to be played by British thesp Shazad Latif (THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL).

Dr. Jekyll isn’t the only new arrival. Patti Lupone – who appeared briefly in Season 2 (pictured above) – will be back in a new role in Season 3. Lupone will be portraying Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa (Eva Green) with an unconventional new approach. (Dracula fans will recognize the name “Seward” immediately.)

Additionally, Christian Camargo (Dexter) joins as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Vanessa; Sam Barnett (2012) as Dr. Seward’s mysterious young secretary; Wes Studi (Hell On Wheels) as Kaetenay, an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton); and Jessica Barden (The Outcast) as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein and his monster, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. They are joined by a core of original characters in a complex, frightening new narrative.

Penny Dreadful will return to Showtime in 2016.
