Peter Sarsgaard joins the cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Okay, Matt Reeves, you can stop now. It seems as though the cast of THE BATMAN keeps growing embarrassingly good with each and every week, and the director took to Twitter to welcome Peter Sarsgaard (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN) to the fold.

The exact nature of Peter Sarsgaard's role in THE BATMAN is being kept under wraps, but according to THR, there are rumblings that he could be playing a corrupt cop named Wasserman or a district attorney, perhaps even Harvey Dent, the DA who becomes Two-Face. Sarsgaard's wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal, posted a cryptic tease on Instagram with a photo of her husband "half way through a shave…" As always, we'll have to wait for something more official before we jump to conclusions, but how would you feel about Peter Sarsgaard taking on the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face?

THE BATMAN stars Robert Pattinson (THE LIGHTHOUSE) as the Dark Knight, Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Catwoman, Paul Dano (SWISS ARMY MAN) as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell (DUMBO) as Penguin, and John Turturro (The Night Of) as Carmine Falcone. We still don't know all that much about THE BATMAN at this stage, but Matt Reeves has teased that it will finally do justice to Batman's reputation of the World's Greatest Detective.

It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.

THE BATMAN is already slated for a June 25, 2021 release.
