Return to Gotham City
Our first look at The Batman Part II arrives, but before you get excited, it’s a tease in every sense of the word. Warner Bros. has just released a teaser trailer that shows off Robert Pattinson donning the cape and cowl, yet again, in the middle of a snowy Gotham City. A new logo is shown with the Roman Numeral 2 placed above the bat symbol and a new date for the film has been announced.
The Batman Part II will now be flying to big screens on February 18, 2028. This extra bit of time gives director Matt Reeves more room for post-production and, according to Deadline, despite this change, this new release date will still see the movie reach IMAX screens.
What We Know About The Batman Part II
The Batman Part II will once again find Robert Pattinson suiting up as Batman, with the rest of the cast including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Jayme Lawson, Brian Tyree Henry, Sebastian Koch, and Gil Perez-Abraham.
Farrell has read the script for the sequel and was very moved. “I read the script, and it’s just brilliant,” he said. “My perspective is that it’s a work of contemporary genre brilliance. It really is. Matt toils so hard, and he puts himself under such pressure. And he realizes what this character and this world mean to so many people, and he knows it’s been around for decades; he’s the man for the job. He really is. He’s a brilliant filmmaker. The thing about Matt, as well, is that, as commercially minded as he is, he’s also so intellectually rigorous.“
He continued, “This film, like the first one, works on multiple levels, both as pure entertainment and as an investigation into the psychology of the characters of Bruce Wayne and Batman. It’s really, really moving. I found myself very emotionally moved while I was reading it.”
Details on the sequel are sparse, but Reeves has previously teased that the villain will be one who hasn’t been featured in a movie before. “I never wanted to lose Rob at the centre of these stories, so that is what we really set our aim on,” he said. “Picking the right villain that digs into what that does and goes into his past and his life, that was what drove that discussion. We’re super excited about it, and I will say, it’s never really been done in a movie before.“
