Good news for fans of Captain Jack Sparrow: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES is back on track for production beginning in 2015. While it was sketchy for a while as to whether Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning would actually get to film the fifth entry in Disney's ride-inspired franchise, it looks like it is now a lock. You can give your thanks to David Fincher as his cancelled 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is partly responsible for this movie becoming a reality.

After securing $21.6 million in funding from the Australian government to film down under, Fincher's film fell apart and the financing has now been shifted over to the mega-budgeted Johnny Depp film. While there will still be 2 years between production and the release of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES, Disney is looking to capitalize on Depp's availability as he has several projects lined up in the coming year.

There is no firm plot revealed for the fifth film but we do know that Jack Sparrow will become the central character rather than sharing time with another headliner. It is expected that Geoffrey Rush may return but nothing else is confirmed aside from the release date of July 7th, 2017.
