Just last week that straight-shooter, The Arrow, graced us all with his exclusive review of THE GENE GENERATION from Cannes. The futuristic flick stars Bai Ling (who may or may not be stalking our Arrow) and Faye Dunaway. The first poster has just been released (above) and it’s not too bad, I guess. It’s got bad-ass Bai flashing a pair of guns and bare shoulders over some sort of city. She sort of looks like she’s auditioning for a role in the next UNDERWORLD movie. I do like the tagline “Death Is Just An Upgrade”. Take a splice of the full synopsis:
In a futuristic world, Michelle (Ling) lives everyday battling with DNA Hackers who use their skills to hack into people’s bodies and kill them. She is an assassin, battling her past demons and trying to keep her younger and extroverted brother, Jackie, out of trouble. When Jackie gets involved in a petty crime of robbery, he propels himself into the world of DNA Hackers, Shylocks (Loan Sharks) and Gang Fights that his sister strongly disapproves of. Michelle always wanted to leave the city and lead a calm and quiet lifestyle.
As emotions and gunfire get into the way, Michelle and Jackie soon find themselves battling between their lives and finding out that in an immoral world, love can still survive. Blood is thicker than water.
It actually doesn’t sound too bad, although I’m prone to trusting The Arrow’s so-so review. GENE was helmed by Pearry Reginald Teo (the youngest Asian-American director in Hollywood) who also co-scripted with Keith Collea. No word yet on an exact release.
