The leaks and news regarding STAR WARS: EPISODE VII are beginning to hit in rapid succession, so we will try to keep our excitement to a fanboy minimum, but there is a potentially huge spoiler that has made it’s way online regarding who the villains will be in next year’s sequel that could explain a hell of a lot of what we have been hearing involving the STAR WARS canon and casting rumors.
At the risk of ruining this monumental movie moment for any of you, I will ask that if you do not want anything spoiled for next Christmas’ event picture, turn away now. Everyone else, if you want to know who will be facing off against our heroes (potentially), scroll past the image of the Inquisitor below.
Welcome, my spoilery chaps! Now, it was no coincidence that I chose an image of the new villain from the animated series STAR WARS: REBELS to buffer this article because, well, he will play a part in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. According to Latino Review, so this will be categorized as a rumor/spoiler, the revamped continuity of the STAR WARS canon was done to help bring in these characters and events that will alter the direction of what the extended universe has shown fans for the last three decades.
Their sources claim that the rumors of Sith Witches as baddies in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is actually referencing the Inquisitors, the pale, Sith villain that is being changed from EU fiction to match what is being introduced in STAR WARS: REBELS. They also go on to claim the following.
When our hero(es) find Luke and the Inquisitors are revealed, Luke’s explanation on the history of this order is going to trigger a flashback to explain that the Inquisitors have been tied into the Sith all along.
Remember when we broke Billie Lourd’s casting (Lourd is the biological daughter of Carrie Fisher)? That’s not so she can play a Solo kid, it’s so she can play a much younger Princess Leia than we’ve ever seen before in this flashback.
Their final reveal claims that the Inquisitors will report directly to Darth Vader, meaning that if this turns out to be true, we will be seeing the former Anakin Skywalker once more in a STAR WARS film, albeit in a flashback.
All in all, I think this is a good way to reinvigorate the STAR WARS franchise and give it some longevity for the new trilogy as well as the standalone films. The best part is that it seems like the changes are being handled with respect for the source material and not straying too far from what made the original trilogy so good. But, it remains to be seen if there is any legitimacy to these rumors.
