Pre-production has begun on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It has been three years since the release of the last RESIDENT EVIL movie. With a delay due to Milla Jovovich's pregnancy, pre-production is now underway on the supposedly last film in the video game horror franchise. Director Paul W.S. Anderson, who is also married to Jovovich, is gearing up for a shoot set to start in August in South Africa.

Jovovich shared the first image from the behind the scenes of RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER via her Instagram account. Not much can be garnered about the film aside from the fact that a face cast will be needed for the main star, something quite common on productions like this.

The RESIDENT EVIL franchise has actually been surprisingly successful despite middling to bad reviews from critics. While the first three films failed to get much more than $100 million worldwide, the two most recent entries have each grossed close to $250 million. With no entry making more than $60 million domestically, the go ahead on sequels seems to be more of a bottom line rationale.

RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER does not currently have a release date but expect to see it hit theaters in 2016.
